DOC’S CAKE SHOP started as Doc D’s Southern Desserts, founded by Darrell Oswald Christopher Darwood in 2010 at the age of 25. In March 2012, he opened the first main location in Bedford-Stuyvesant. Darrell, known as Doc, built his business using recipes passed down from his grandmother, Joyce “Grams” Darwood. She taught him how to bake when he was young, and her influence remains a key part of his work today.
Doc was always known for his cooking and desserts among family, friends, and his church community. By 27, he began sharing his love of southern flavors with others, focusing on rich, moist, and flavorful desserts. His goal has always been the same: to create real southern-style desserts that stay true to their roots.
